Take a table with a view of the boats moving through the harbor and let breakfast run long. That is how the day is supposed to go here.

One of the pleasures of staying near the harbor is being able to wander downtown without a plan. The streets are lined with small boutiques, gift shops and galleries that show off the character of the region. You will find handmade goods, coastal pieces for the house and artwork by people who paint what you just walked past.

The pace encourages lingering. Browse at your own speed, talk to the shopkeepers and duck down a side street. That is where the good finds usually are.

Stay close to everything on Commercial Street

Staying within walking distance of the harbor changes the whole trip. You can take a spontaneous walk, reach dinner without a car and move through town at your own pace.

Both of our inns sit on Commercial Street a few minutes' walk from downtown. Greenleaf Inn has king rooms and a third-floor sky deck for the sunset you did not walk out for. Admiral's Quarters next door has a glass solarium and a harbor lawn with a fire pit. From either door you step straight into the town.
